Engineering Team Leader

Renfrew

Permanent

NT Engineering & Manufacturing are working with a fantastic business who are looking for a technically credible, strategic leader to take ownership of engineering configuration management and product data governance across their full product portfolio — current and legacy.

If you're someone who takes real pride in getting engineering data right — BOMs, technical documentation, engineering changes — and you understand why that discipline matters far beyond the paperwork, this could be a brilliant next step. You'll be the person making sure engineering data, product structures and change control stay accurate, compliant and joined up across the business, giving everyone from Manufacturing to Quality to Service the confidence that what they're working from is correct.

You'll work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain and Service teams, so this is very much a relationship-driven role as much as a technical one — you'll need to bring people with you, not just set the standard and walk away.

What you'll be doing

  • Owning configuration management standards across product lines — BOM structures, part numbering, revision control, lifecycle status and release governance
  • Leading the Engineering Change (ECR/ECN) process end-to-end, with robust impact assessment, approvals, implementation planning and traceability
  • Acting as custodian for technical files and engineering documentation, keeping the business audit-ready
  • Maintaining alignment between CAD/PDM/PLM and ERP systems (e.g. SAP)
  • Standardising drawing, documentation and engineering data practices across sites and external partners
  • Supporting obsolescence management, legacy product stewardship and controlled substitutions
  • Facilitating cross-functional change boards and release reviews
  • Building out reporting and KPIs on change performance, data quality and governance effectiveness
  • Driving continuous improvement across engineering governance, workflows and data quality

Leading the team

  • Leading, coaching and developing the configuration and change management team
  • Setting clear objectives, performance expectations and development plans
  • Building a culture of accountability, collaboration and "right first time" engineering data
  • Spotting capability gaps and backing your team's development

What you'll bring

Essential:

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent experience) in Engineering or a related discipline
  • Proven experience in configuration management, engineering governance, product lifecycle management or engineering change control
  • Strong grasp of BOMs, revision control, technical documentation and engineering data governance
  • Experience in a regulated or compliance-driven manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of ERP, PLM/PDM and CAD data environments
  • The ability to drive standardisation and alignment across multiple sites

Desirable:

  • Experience improving PLM/ECM workflows and engineering governance processes
  • Knowledge of technical file structures and international compliance requirements
  • Experience with legacy products, sustaining engineering or obsolescence management

What success looks like, 6–12 months in

  • A stable, effective engineering change governance process is up and running
  • BOM and engineering data accuracy has visibly improved across systems
  • Audit-ready technical files are in place for priority products
  • Consistent engineering standards are embedded across teams and locations
  • Downstream disruption from configuration or documentation issues is noticeably reduced
