Working closely with the production and engineering teams, you will play a key role in minimising downtime, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring all maintenance activities are carried out to the highest standards of safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on mechanical plant and equipment.
- Respond promptly to mechanical breakdowns, diagnose faults, and complete effective repairs.
- Inspect, maintain, and overhaul pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, motors, bearings, valves, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Support continuous improvement projects aimed at increasing equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
- Complete maintenance records accurately using the company's maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Assist with installation, commissioning, and modification of new machinery and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times.
- Participate in root cause analysis of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
- Work collaboratively with electrical engineers, production teams, and external contractors where required.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping within workshop and plant areas.
- Participate in on-call or shift rotas where applicable.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Time-served Mechanical Engineer or recognised Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship.
- HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering (desirable but not essential depending on experience).
- Proven experience in a maintenance engineering role within a manufacturing, industrial, processing, or production environment.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Experience working with rotating equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, pumps, and conveyors.
- Good understanding of preventative maintenance systems.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Welding and fabrication experience.
- Knowledge of CMMS software.
- Experience with condition monitoring techniques.
- Forklift, MEWP, or confined space certification.
- Experience in food manufacturing, distilling, utilities, or heavy industry.

Working Hours
This is a full-time permanent position based in Kinross. Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, with flexibility to support planned maintenance shutdowns, overtime, or on-call duties as required.
