About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Service Engineer to join our Service Division, providing inspection, maintenance, repair, and commissioning support for low-voltage (LV) switchboards and circuit breakers across marine and industrial environments.
This is a field-based role requiring regular travel to customer sites throughout the UK and occasionally overseas. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing faults, carrying out maintenance and modifications, producing technical reports, and delivering excellent customer service while ensuring the highest standards of safety and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out inspections of LV switchboards and diagnose electrical faults.
- Perform maintenance, repairs, modifications, and electrical testing on LV switchboards and circuit breakers.
- Undertake planned and reactive service work within marine and industrial environments.
- Complete detailed service reports, inspection reports, and test documentation.
- Conduct site surveys and attend customer meetings where required.
- Prepare Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) before commencing work.
- Interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Investigate customer enquiries and provide technical support and recommendations.
- Liaise professionally with customers, maintaining excellent relationships and delivering high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Work closely with the Service Manager and internal departments to coordinate service activities.
- Update service databases with customer and job information.
- Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with company procedures and Health & Safety regulations.
- Participate in an out-of-hours contact rota and be available to respond to customer requirements when necessary.
- Travel throughout the UK and overseas as required, including occasional overnight stays and unsociable working hours.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- HNC or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering.
- Strong electrical, electronic, and mechanical engineering knowledge.
- Experience maintaining and fault-finding on LV switchgear, switchboards, or electrical distribution equipment.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Strong report writing and documentation skills.
- Good communication skills with the ability to build positive customer relationships.
- Sound understanding of Health & Safety legislation and safe working practices.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel extensively throughout the UK and internationally.
Desirable
- Experience working within the marine industry.
- Knowledge of electrical energy distribution systems and control products.
- Previous experience servicing LV circuit breakers and switchgear.
- Experience working on live electrical systems (where appropriately authorised).
