Role Overview

We are looking for a technically credible and strategic leader to own engineering configuration management and product data governance across our full product portfolio, including both current and legacy products.

This role is responsible for ensuring engineering data, BOMs, technical documentation, and engineering changes are controlled, compliant, and aligned across the business. You will lead the governance, standards, and processes that enable efficient product development while maintaining audit readiness, product integrity, and operational continuity.

You will work cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Service teams to ensure changes are implemented effectively and engineering data remains accurate throughout the product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own configuration management standards across product lines, including BOM structures, part numbering, revision control, lifecycle status, and release governance.
  • Lead the Engineering Change (ECR/ECN) process, ensuring robust impact assessment, approvals, implementation planning, and traceability.
  • Act as custodian for technical files and engineering documentation, ensuring compliance and audit readiness.
  • Maintain alignment and integrity between CAD/PDM/PLM and ERP systems (e.g., SAP).
  • Define and standardise drawing, documentation, and engineering data practices across engineering locations and external partners.
  • Support obsolescence management, legacy product stewardship, and controlled substitutions.
  • Facilitate cross-functional change boards and release reviews.
  • Develop reporting and KPIs covering change performance, data quality, and governance effectiveness.
  • Drive continuous improvement of engineering governance, workflows, and product data quality.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop the configuration and change management team.
  • Set clear objectives, performance expectations, and development plans.
  • Build a culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and “right first time” engineering data.
  • Identify capability gaps and support ongoing team development.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent experience) in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in configuration management, engineering governance, product lifecycle management, or engineering change control.
  • Strong understanding of BOMs, revision control, technical documentation, and engineering data governance.
  • Experience working within regulated or compliance-driven manufacturing environments.
  • Working knowledge of ERP, PLM/PDM, and CAD data environments.
  • Ability to drive standardisation and cross-functional alignment across multiple sites.

Desirable

  • Experience improving PLM/ECM workflows and engineering governance processes.
  • Knowledge of technical file structures and international compliance requirements.
  • Experience supporting legacy products, sustaining engineering, or obsolescence management.

What Success Looks Like

Within the first 6–12 months, you will have:

  • Established a stable and effective engineering change governance process.
  • Improved BOM and engineering data accuracy across systems.
  • Delivered audit-ready technical files for priority products.
  • Introduced consistent engineering standards across teams and locations.
  • Reduced downstream disruption caused by configuration or documentation issues.
