My client has created a new position for a process safety support engineer to join their team at a COMAH site and be responsible for ensuring HAZOP and HAZID are progressed and completed along with looking at the assets on site from a process safety aspect. 

The role supports safe, compliant, and efficient operations by ensuring robust risk assessment, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement in process safety performance.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

•    Lead and facilitate Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) activities, including HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL assessments, and hazardous area classification.
•    Support process safety requirements across FEED and EPC project stages, ensuring alignment with internal engineering standards and legal obligations.
•    Conduct internal process safety reviews to assess risks, controls, and opportunities for improvement.
•    Provide specialist guidance on COMAH, DSEAR, ATEX, WSOE and explosive atmosphere requirements.
•    Support site HSE and Engineering teams to ensure full compliance with current and emerging process safety legislation and industry guidance.
•    Act as a key member of the Management of Change (MoC) authorisation team, ensuring process safety implications are fully assessed and controlled.
•    Coordinate internal projects to ensure full compliance with process safety requirements at every stage.
•    Approve contractor competency to operate on site prior to commencement of activities.
•    Provide process safety input into engineering design, modifications, and change management processes, for both internal and contractor activities.
•    Support projects with documentation review and retention.
•    Lead process safety related incident investigations and root cause analysis, ensuring effective corrective and preventive actions.
•    Develop and implement tools, processes, and interventions to strengthen risk management frameworks and audit methodologies.
•    Promote best practice and drive continuous improvement in process safety performance.
•    Provide guidance to all functions to build process safety competence and awareness at every level.
•    Develop strong relationships with internal stakeholders to influence process change and embed a robust process safety culture.
